Morrocco Access Program: Culturally Sensitive Programming, Travel Logistics
Morrocco Access Program

Pathways Portugal is designed to honor Moroccan cultural values by integrating respect for family, faith, and community into the recovery process. Services are offered in Moroccan Arabic (Darija) and/or Arabic, with access to culturally competent staff who understand local customs, religious practices, and social norms. Spiritual well-being is supported through optional faith-informed counseling, space for prayer, and collaboration with trusted religious or community figures when appropriate and requested by participants. Treatment approaches emphasize dignity, privacy, and trust, acknowledging the stigma that can surround substance use and mental health, and framing recovery as a path to personal balance, responsibility, and renewed connection to loved ones.

Family involvement is encouraged in a way that respects individual boundaries, recognizing the central role of family in Moroccan society while prioritizing the client’s autonomy and safety. Group and individual therapies are adapted to be culturally relevant, using examples and metaphors that resonate with Moroccan life and values, and offering gender-responsive options when needed. The program also supports reintegration by building practical skills, strengthening community ties, and addressing social and economic challenges that may affect recovery. Overall, the approach blends evidence-based care with cultural humility, creating a supportive environment where Moroccan participants feel understood, respected, and empowered to heal.
